Hats for Toddler Boys

Hats, beanies and caps are cute and fun things to buy or make. They are good to make as the fit is very forgiving. It is a small garment so made quickly and easily, by knitting or crocheting, or if you are a sucker for punishment on a sewing machine. My mom had one of those once many years ago.

When making one, you can make two of a kind very easily. All the mistakes on the first one and the good looking one is the second one. That way he has two almost identical hats so his favourite can then be the first one you made, the one that has all the character.

Amazon does have a good selection of knitting and crochet patterns to get you started or maybe you have a friend with a home knitting machine. Ask her and you will probably be inundated with hats, beanies and the like.

If you have to buy one then that's a different story and you can get him one with all the action men, cartoon characters and psychedelic colours imaginable. That way when he is playing in the park his hat will stand out in the crowd and he cannot escape the practised beady eye of mother which will follow his every move.

Having now got him his hat that of course will be the one item of clothing he will refuse to wear. Be it snow or searing sunshine as far as he is concerned hats are a no no. This is where your puppy training skills must come in (as the man in the Dog Whisperer says, you are the leader of the pack). Rather than brute force use bribes or chicanery to convince him that wearing a hat is a good idea.

In other words, if he wears his hat there is some sort of treat, preferably one that he would get anyway and if he does not, and then he loses something, again preferably something that would not have been allowed. The devious, conniving mind of a born mother would have no difficulty in working out a way. You can out think a two year old can't you?

If having gone to all that trouble and expense of getting him a good hat he complains and moans and never stops scratching his head, FIRST check for nits and lice. If you find none throw the hat away and go and get him a much better hat. On second thoughts if you did find nits or lice also throw that hat away too
